We've compiled an informal guide to the various requirements and onboarding processes for each platform to make it easier. About - BetterHelp is a telehealth company that removes the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Today, it is the world’s largest therapy service — providing professional, affordable, and personalized therapy in a convenient online format with a network of over 30,000 licensed therapists that have helped millions of people.

Requirements - The process for applying to become a therapist with BetterHelp involves some basic requirements:

  • A valid license to provide clinical therapy issued by a state board (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, PsyD, or similar credentials).
  • An individual NPI number.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in therapy for adults, couples, and/or teens.
  • A desktop or laptop computer with a reliable internet connection and a webcam.
  • If you meet the requirements and complete the application process, you can potentially join the platform as a therapist.

Application Process: Applicants provide relevant personal and professional details by completing an online application form.

  • This may be followed by a quiz that BetterHelp sends in which you may be asked to consider different clinical situations or patients and simulate your responses.
  • You may also be sent additional reading material and questions.
  • Interview: Applicants must participate in a live interview with a BetterHelp Agent.
  • Many applicants report that this process takes about a week or so
  • NOTE: therapists on BetterHelp are not employees but independent providers
  • Applicants should verify the current application process on the official BetterHelp website. The requirements and process may be subject to change.
  • Once you are cleared you will be provided with an account and matched with potential clients. You may control the volume of new client contacts by indicating whether you prefer a “slow,” “medium,” or “high” caseload growth.

Ruh Care

About - Ruh Care is an online therapy platform that connects users to licensed Muslim therapists via chat, phone, and live video chats.

Requirements - To become a therapist with Ruh the basic requirements include:

• A Master’s Degree or above in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline from a recognized institution
‍

• A valid license in good standing with the respective college/regulatory body as a regulated mental health professional to provide clinical therapy in your province or state
‍

• Individual professional liability insurance


• Location: Work-from-home, open to therapists globally.

• Ability to commit a minimum of 12 sessions per month for clients


Application Process:

The process of joining requires one to submit their application. Ruh reviews applications weekly and will reach out to eligible candidates for a clinical chat.


Onboarding requires completing basic forms for onboarding and receiving personalized training on how to use the Ruh Care Platform. Therapists can start getting clients and setting session rates and availability.


Please note this service focuses on Muslim populations and tailors their work to fit these needs.

About - Talkspace, an American-Israeli company that has been providing online psychological support for years.

Requirements - All providers interested in joining the Talkspace clinical community must complete the application process, which takes an average of 4-6 weeks.


The process involves completing a series of required forms and a signed CAQH application with an individual NPI number.


The Talkspace team verifies the submission of key data through primary and secondary sources. If all information is verified, the credentialing team then reviews the full application and verification information to make a decision.

Application Process: Applicants must complete a 3-day required training program that covers telehealth service delivery, documentation, risk management, managed care, and psychiatry services. You will also have the opportunity to complete an additional 3-day training course (optional).

  • Getting Started at Talkspace online course (required)
  • Group virtual learning, led by a member of our Quality Support team.
  • One on one calls with an experienced therapist. - Dedicated first-month assistance with your questions.
  • Ongoing Learning Community presentations, some now eligible for *clinical education credits!*
  • Access to the full Provider Help Center.
